Our aim
Songhounds should work for everyone who wants a song for their pet, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, magnification or captions. We work toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we do
Every song comes with its lyrics in writing: on the memorial page and as a lyric sheet PDF, so nobody has to hear it to know what it says.
The audio player is a real button and slider. It works with a keyboard and a screen reader names what it plays.
Links, buttons and form fields show a visible outline when you reach them with the keyboard.
If your device asks for reduced motion, the site turns off its animations, apart from the home page video noted below.
The page is set in plain HTML with headings in order, so you can move through it by heading.
What we know is not right yet
The video at the top of the home page plays on a silent loop and has no pause button. It shows people listening and carries no information you need, but we are adding a way to stop it.
We have not had the site audited by an outside accessibility specialist yet. If something gets in your way, we want to hear about it.
Tell us
If any part of the site is hard to use, tell us what you were trying to do and we will fix it or help you order another way. A person answers, usually within two business days.
